All-New BMW 2 Series Unveiled, Gets Mixed Reviews

BMW has unveiled the latest edition of the all-new 2021 BMW 2 Series Coupé, which is receiving mixed reviews from people around the world due to its rear design that didn’t meet the expectations of many.

Revealed at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed last week, the new model will be built at the BMW Group’s San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

Up to 374 hp

Launch line-up will be spearheaded by the high-performance BMW M240i xDrive Coupé that comes with a 374 hp six-cylinder in-line petrol engine and intelligent all-wheel drive.

There will also be a choice of four-cylinder petrol and diesel models whose power is transmitted to the rear wheels.

All the engines team up with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. Optional eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission (standard in the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé).

Dimensions

On the exterior, the car is 105 mm longer and 64 mm wider than the outgoing model, while the wheelbase is 51 mm longer. Vehicle height has also been lowered by 28 mm, with tracks that were widened by 54 mm at front and 31 mm at rear.

Design wise, the front-end design features individual headlights in BMW 02 style and a new-look BMW kidney grille with vertically arranged active air flaps instead of bars.

At the rear, the car features compact rear light units with rearranged LED light functions with distinctive design accents for M Sport specification and BMW M240i xDrive Coupé.

Chassis technology from BMW 4 Series

Featuring numerous chassis technology borrowed from the BMW 4 Series, standard specification includes two-joint spring strut front axle, five‑link rear axle, lift-related dampers and Electric Power Steering with Servotronic function.

Further complementing the package is the M Sport suspension, additional front axle struts, M Sport brakes and M Sport differential at the rear axle. There is also Launch Control and Sprint functions.

Interior

Inside, you get a driver-focused cockpit design with a modern control panel in the centre console and the option of a fully digital display grouping.

Sport seats and Sport leather steering wheel come as standard, with M leather steering wheel and M Sport seats with integral head restraints available as options.

Special interior features for M Sport specification and the BMW M240i xDrive Coupé, such as cushioned knee pads on the centre console, heighten the emphasis on intense driving pleasure.

Other standard features include three-zone automatic climate control, windscreen with acoustic glazing, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Driver Assistance

Driver Assistance features like Front-collision warning; Speed Limit Info, Lane Departure Warning and Cruise Control with brake function are fitted as standard.

BMW 2 Series Coupe

Also available for the BMW 2 Series Coupé for the first time is the BMW Head-Up Display and BMW Drive Recorder. Infotainment is taken care by a 5.1-inch colour display as part of the standard-fitted BMW Live Cockpit. Smartphone integration using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available as an optional extra too.
