Chery Malaysia today celebrated the completion and handover of the first locally assembled units of the Chery Omoda 5 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.
The handover ceremony was held at the Inokom CKD Plant in Kulim, Kedah, where a mock key was presented by the Managing Director of Inokom Corporation, Mr. Sui Keng Huat to the Plant Operation Director of Chery Malaysia, Mr. Xu Jing Zhong.
During the ceremony, the first CKD units of the Omoda 5 and Tiggo 8 Pro were officially handed over to Chery Malaysia, marking the beginning of a new era in Chery’s Malaysian automotive journey.
Following the handover ceremony, Chery also shared that the brand has sold a total of 741,400 vehicles globally this year so far, representing a year-on-year increase of 56%.
According to Chery, the sales figures have reached a new record high sales in the history of semi-annual, exceeded 100,000 vehicles in a single month for 13 consecutive months, and brought Chery to the second position in the industry in China.
It was said that the cumulative sales volume of the Chery brand in the first half of the year was 539,400, a year-on-year increase of 50.9%.
According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), China’s auto exports in the first quarter of 2023 exceeded 1.07 million vehicles, surpassing Japan and becoming the world’s largest auto exporter.
