Here to compete with premium Japanese scooters like the Yamaha T-Max and the Honda X-ADV 750, renowned Taiwanese motorcycle manufacturer Kymco, through its authorised distributor in Malaysia, EMOS (Modenas), recently launched the Kymco AK550 scooter.
Priced at RM65,600, the Kymco AK550 scooter is powered by a 550cc liquid-cooled DOHC, two-cylinder, engine producing 51 hp at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 52 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm, which is sent to the rear wheel via CVT gearbox and an exposed belt drive.
Complementing the powertrain are upside down forks, a 15-litre fuel tank, twin brake discs measuring 280mm at the front and 260mm at the rear, as well as Brembo callipers with cornering ABS.
The list of standard features also includes keyless operation, full LED lights in front and the rear, a fully digital instrument cluster, electrically adjustable windscreen, USB ports, and two riding modes, namely Power and Rain. Traction Control is also offered as standard.
On top of all of the above, there is also Cruise Control, as well as mobile phone connectivity where owners can pair their devices with the scooter to use navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps via Kymco’s Noodoe mobile app.
Last but not least, the Kymco AK550, which is imported fully, is available in two colours – Black and Matte Brown.
