The Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric has been updated for model year 2024 with up to 550km in electric range, faster DC charging for a larger battery pack, and pixel headlight technology.
For Malaysia, Volvo Car Malaysia is offering the top-of-the-line twin motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant which features a more powerful, second-generation permanent magnet rear electric motor developed in-house by the brand.
This replaces the Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric’s previous set-up of two 150kW e-motors with a higher output of 183kW at the rear axle and a new 117kW asynchronous electric motor on the front axle. This new configuration with a maximum power output of 300kW emphasises power delivery at the rear for a more engaging driving experience.
The updated model also boasts an upgraded 82kWh battery pack from 78kWh previously that also accommodates a higher maximum input of 200kW for DC charging that allows a 10 to 80 percent charge in 27 minutes.
Paired with the new twin-motor configuration and overall efficiency improvements in battery cooling, the upgraded battery pack gives the new Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric a vastly improved range – 100km more than the previous version.
“These updates are another big step in our work towards becoming a fully electric car maker by 2030,” said Javier Varela, Volvo Cars’ chief operating officer and deputy chief executive. “Range and charging times are new key factors for more and more of our customers, and these improvements make our fully electric models even more attractive than they already were.”
The Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric is the automotive brand’s first “born electric” model designed from the start to be fully electric. Its edgy design and cutting-edge safety technology comes in a compact yet practical format, joining Volvo Car Malaysia’s popular SUV fleet since its introduction in December 2022. The upgrades for model year 2024 solidifies the brand’s position as a leading mover in the e-luxury segment.
The updated Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric also offers:
- New pixel headlights that utilise sensors to control forward lighting, capable of adjusting brightness for specific areas to ensure drivers’ visibility without blinding oncoming traffic.
- New 19-inch alloy wheels that not only boost the overall look but also helps to reduce drag through an aerodynamic design.
- A new exterior colour option, Vapour Grey, add on to the existing Onyx Black, Crystal White, Fjord Blue, and Sage Green colourways.
- 5-year complimentary Digital Services for access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Play Store and Volvo Cars app remote functions.
Best of all, the upgraded Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric is priced similarly to the previous variant at RM288,888, with flexible financing and lower interest rates with Volvo Car Financial Services.
