BMW expands Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia

BMW Group Malaysia celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Regional Parts Distribution Centre in Malaysia, marking the occasion with an expansion of the facility at the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru.

Originally set up in 2004 at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, the centre moved to its current location in 2016. The facility, which was 45,000 square metres in size, has now expanded to 65,000 square metres, showing BMW’s commitment to growth in the region.

Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) congratulated BMW on the milestone and praised the facility’s role in Malaysia’s economy, calling it a symbol of Malaysia’s importance in the Asia Pacific supply chain. He emphasized Malaysia’s strategic location, skilled workforce, and investment-friendly policies.

Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia, highlighted the centre’s success in supporting BMW’s operations and solidifying Malaysia as a key logistics hub in the region. The expansion includes a new High Voltage Battery Storage Area and a modern racking system, with the addition of a solar panel roof to support sustainability efforts.

Since its opening, the centre’s turnover has grown significantly, from EUR 141 million in 2017 to EUR 277 million in 2023. The centre handles over 100,000 inventory items each month, and its delivery and service standards are exceptional, with a 99% on-time rate and 99.5% delivery accuracy. It also ships out 15 containers weekly to international markets and 42 trucks locally.

The expansion of the BMW Group Regional Parts Distribution Centre strengthens the company’s logistics capabilities and ensures Malaysia’s ongoing role in the Group’s success in the Asia Pacific region.
