Proton has successfully wrapped up 2024 with an impressive 152,352 units sold (domestic and export), securing its position as the second-best-selling automotive brand in Malaysia for the sixth consecutive year. This milestone reflects Proton’s ongoing commitment to delivering reliable, innovative, and value-for-money vehicles to its customers.
December Highlights: Strong Sales Growth
December marked a standout month for Proton, with 14,601 units sold, representing a 19.7% increase over November. The brand also set new records for exports, shipping 1,131 units overseas. This success comes amidst fierce competition from new brands and models targeting similar customer demographics.
Expanding the EV Market: Proton e.MAS 7
Proton entered the electric vehicle (EV) market in 2024 with the launch of its first EV model, the Proton e.MAS 7, reflecting the company’s dedication to embracing future mobility trends.
In addition to its Proton models, the brand’s subsidiary, PRO-NET, achieved significant success as the importer and distributor of smart Automobile models. A total of 622 units of the smart #1 and #3 were sold in 2024, bringing Proton’s overall vehicle sales to 152,974 units.
Market Share and Industry Milestone
The Total Industry Volume (TIV) for Malaysia in 2024 reached a record-breaking 813,521 units, with Proton capturing a notable 18.7% market share. This achievement further solidifies Proton’s position as a key player in the automotive industry.
Top Performers: Proton Saga Leads the Pack
- Proton Saga: As Proton’s most iconic model, the Saga topped the sales chart in 2024 with 72,769 units sold, a 3.7% increase compared to 2023. With over 2 million units sold since its launch, the Saga continues to be a favorite among Malaysians.
- Proton S70: With 19,182 units sold, the Proton S70 emerged as the most popular C-segment sedan in Malaysia. Buyers praised its attractive design, impressive performance, and exceptional value for money.
- Proton X50: The 2024 Proton X50 recorded 23,647 units sold, maintaining its status as the best-selling B-segment SUV for the fourth consecutive year.
- Proton X70: Despite intense competition, the Proton X70 achieved 8,992 units sold, with a notable 36.7% month-on-month sales increase in December.
- Proton X90: As the D-segment SUV leader, the Proton X90 sold 3,553 units, highlighting its appeal as a premium family SUV.
- Proton Persona and Iriz: The Persona closed the year with 18,853 units sold, while the Iriz reached 5,113 units, both experiencing strong year-end growth.
Export Success: Leading Malaysia’s Automotive Exports
Proton continues to dominate the export market, with sales in 18 countries and a 31% increase in export volume compared to 2023. Egypt emerged as the top export destination with 1,748 units, followed by Brunei, which recorded a new sales record of 1,200 units.
The Proton Saga led export sales with 2,906 units, contributing a remarkable 61% of total exports. The Proton X50 and S70 also performed strongly in international markets.
