Recently, a total of 30 modern gas-powered MAN articulated buses have replaced the older generation of articulated and non-articulated vehicles in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
This offers the local residents a number of benefits: On the one hand, the 18-meter-long buses increase passenger capacity on the most frequented routes. An articulated bus has sufficient capacity for a total of 155 passengers, 35 of whom can be seated. Extra comfort and safety is provided by a fully flat low floor, a folding ramp, video surveillance as well as a passenger information system with easy-to-read LED displays. Furthermore, the vehicle is fitted with an air-conditioning system and integrated ceiling heating system. On the other hand, the new MAN Lion’s City CNG vehicles also reduce emissions thanks to the gas engines they are equipped with. Efficient operation is supported by a real-time fleet management system.
”The trend of urbanisation and the simultaneously increasing pressure on transport companies to reduce their emissions in urban areas calls for new solutions for short distance passenger transport. We are very proud that we can contribute to making Ljubljana cleaner and greener with our low-emission and cost-efficient CNG-powered buses“, says Martin Strier, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Slovenija. Through the use of biogas or e-gas as fuel, short distance passenger transport could be almost entirely CO2-neutral.
“Reducing particle emissions by five tons a year is a great improvement for Ljubljana” – Peter Horvat, director of local transport company LPP emphasises on the occasion of the vehicle handback. The efficient 6-cylinder in-line engine delivers 310 HP (228 kW) at 2000 RPM. The vehicles are fitted with a new generation DIWA6 automatic gearbox from Voith with an integrated retarder and the capability to adapt to topographic conditions.
For the transport company, putting the new buses into operation marks the beginning of the complete renewal of their fleet. The goal is to gradually replace all Euro 4 buses in the forthcoming years.
