Yes, a Perodua SUV is in the pipeline and could well be the return of the Kembara. Not since the Perodua Nautica, has this car manufacturer looked at releasing a compact SUV. Now with the increasing demand for compact SUV’s in Malaysia, Perodua has plans for a compact SUV and with its partnership with Daihatsu Japan there is very good chance that this FT Concept first shown in Indonesia might be Perodua’s next SUV.
The FT has the right dimensions which are 3,800mm long, 1,690mm wide and 1,580mm tall, with a 2,455mm wheelbase. This makes it just a td smaller than the very popular Honda HR-V and near the soon to arrive Toyota CH-R size.
The FT has a modern, stylish appearance, with the front end featuring sleek LED headlights, a slim upper grille and a full-width chrome bar. The sharp trapezoidal lower grille is flanked by LED daytime running lights. At the rear, the LED taillights are connected by another chrome bar, while the bumper integrates a skid plate and twin vertical exhaust tips. The interior is bright and somewhat futuristic, with a dual-tier instrument panel and a large interactive display in the center of the dash.
Daihatsu and Perodua will probably use its 1.2-liter engine in the FT and will carry a rear-wheel drive layout as a 4×4 compact SUV is not necessary.
