Echoing Van den Heede’s delight, Wong King Yoon, Chief Executive Officer, TCIE also said, “This truly highlights a successful relationship with a valued customer based on our brand promise to go the extra mile, which comprises quality products and strong aftermarket support that we have been providing. We are highly appreciative of the confidence TNB continues to give us.”

TNB’s activities represent the entire electricity production and supply value chain. These nine newly purchased UD Quester trucks comprised of seven units of 18-tonne trucks and two units of 24-tonne trucks which will all be used by TNB as mobile generator sets to support the national electricity needs in case of any breakdown, standby and planned shutdown. All the trucks will be allocated at TNB’s Fleet Management Department branches across Peninsula Malaysia.

Speaking on the truck purchase, Mohammad Anas Ibrahim, General Manager, Core Operation & Shared Services, Fleet Management Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad said, “TNB’s role as the nation’s electricity provider is to ensure that customers are connected with power from power plants through a network system made up of transmission lines, substations and distribution lines. It is via this reliable system that TNB supplies electricity to Malaysians consistently and continuously, as well as ensuring there is always a balance between demand and supply. If any case of electricity breakdown happens, it needs to be resolved quickly by having mobile generator sets as immediate backup.

“As such, we need reliable and versatile trucks that can used as mobile generator sets and which can be deployed quickly for a solution.  This will enable us to minimize electricity disruption to our customers and continuously stay committed in supporting the country’s electrical needs” said Mohammad Anas, who represented Datuk S. Viswanathan, Senior General Manager, Fleet Management Department, Tenaga Nasional Berhad during the handing over ceremony.

“Apart from robust and versatile trucks, we also need fast service maintenance support. TCIE’s aftersales service department has been very attentive and they have always provided fast response to any of our enquiries. As such, we believe that UD Trucks and TCIE are strong partners who will take good care of TNB’s needs, allowing us to concentrate on our core operations with peace of mind.”

He added that TNB Fleet Management Department bought its first UD truck in 2006 and has plans to purchase more light and medium-duty trucks this year to replace other older trucks in its fleet, with the objective to increase operational efficiency.
