28 articulated hybrid buses manufactured by Volvo Buses are now transporting passengers around Budapest. This is the largest ever order for the Volvo 7900 Articulated Hybrid. The customer is the Hungarian bus operator T&J Busz.
The Volvo 7900 Articulated Hybrid has a large passenger capacity, low noise and emission levels and fuel consumption which is 30 percent below that of an equivalent diesel bus. This makes it an attractive alternative for large cities where the focus is on sustainable transport.
“It’s really good news that Budapest has also decided to invest in hybrid technology. We have sold more than 1900 hybrid buses to cities in 21 countries, but this is the largest single order so far for articulated hybrid buses,” says Arpad Szucs, Country Manager at Volvo Buses in Hungary.
In addition to the 28 buses, Volvo Buses will also be supplying T&J Busz with servicing and maintenance for all the buses, including the batteries, for a fixed monthly cost.
“Customers who make the move to a new technology obviously want to feel secure. This is why we offer business models where we take responsibility for all the maintenance of the buses, including the batteries, for a fixed, predefined cost. This is a win-win situation for both parties,” says Fredrik Röstad, Head of Area East Europe at Volvo Buses.
The sale was made in collaboration with the Hungarian company Rába Automotive, which also supplied the seats for the 28 hybrid buses.
