Mercedes-Benz Malaysia today celebrated the digital premiere of three new AMG compact models – the Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC, A 45 4MATIC+, and the CLA 45 4MATIC+.
Before we go any further, let’s get the most painful part out of the way, the price:
- Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC Edition 1 – RM379,888
- Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ Edition 1 – RM459,888
- Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ – RM448,888
On one hand, we have the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4MATIC+ and CLA 45 S 4MATIC+ powered by a newly developed 2.0-litre turbo engine making 421 PS and 500 Nm of torque, which is like 40 hp more than the outgoing 45 series. Maximum torque has also increased from 475 to up to 500 Nm.
Both models are able to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds, and clock a top speed of 270 km/h.
The noticeable change of the M 139 engine is the reversed mounting position of the engine whereby the exhaust manifold and turbocharger are now located at the rear whereas, the intake system is now at the front. The modified position allows for a flat, more aerodynamic front design while concurrently optimising the air flow in the engine compartment, which simply means “more power!!!”
And then we have the A 35 4MATIC hatchback which is powered by 2.0-litre four cylinder turbo engine producing 306 hp output and 400 Nm of torque. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G transmission enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds which is still quite quick. All three models are equipped with the AMG Performance 4MATIC variable all-wheel drive system.
