After months of hype and anticipation, BMW Group Malaysia today finally announced the introduction of the First-Ever BMW iX electric crossover.
The BMW iX will be available in two variants with prices (Recommended Retail Pricing with Extended Warranty & Service Package) as mentioned below:
- BMW iX xDrive40 – RM435,800
- BMW iX xDrive40 with Power Package – RM440,400
- BMW iX xDrive40 Sport – RM488,800
- BMW iX xDrive40 Sport with Power Package – RM493,400
Exterior
On the exterior, the iX is about the same size as the current X5, stands as tall as the X6, and features the same wheel dimensions as the X7. At the centre of the front end stands the new controversial kidney grille.
Since the electric drive system of the BMW iX requires only a small amount of cooling air, the kidney grille is completely blanked off. Its role has duly turned digital and here it functions as an intelligence panel.
Camera technology, radar functions and other sensors are integrated seamlessly into the grille behind a transparent surface.
The door openers are flush, the filler neck for the windscreen washer fluid is concealed under the BMW logo on the bonnet and the rear-view camera has been integrated into the BMW logo on the tailgate.
While the BMW iX xDrive40 comes with LED headlights, the iX xDrive40 Sport gets BMW Laserlights. Another difference is that the iX xDrive40 comes fitted with 21-inch wheels, whereas the iX xDrive40 Sport gets 22-inch aerodynamic rims.
Interior
Inside, the cabin is designed to be as minimalist as possible, with an exceptionally large panoramic glass roof, no centre tunnel, and a centre console crafted to look like a piece of furniture.
The displays and controls are all stripped down to the essentials. The model will also feature the latest version of the BMW iDrive system.
Additionally, the vehicle will also feature the very first BMW IconicSounds Electric – developed in collaboration with world-famous composer and Academy Awards winner, Hans Zimmer.
Powertrain
Powered by the fifth generation BMW eDrive technology that comprises two electric motors, the iX xDrive40 is capable of kicking out 326 PS and 630 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from naught to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds while hitting a top speed of 200 km/h.
Capable of covering up to 425 kilometres, the iX xDrive40 also comes with a 76.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be charged via a Type 2 connection in about seven hours using an AC charger, or in just 30 minutes using a DC fast charger.
Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant features are standard for the iX xDrive40, whereas the Sport variants arrive with the Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Plus. The Sport variants are also exclusively equipped with Harman Kardon surround sound systems.
Warranty
Owners of the BMW iX xDrive40 and iX xDrive40 Sport can also enjoy battery warranty of up to 8 years or 160,000km, whichever comes first.
Additionally, the first 50 customers to pre-book the First-Ever BMW iX xDrive40 and First-Ever BMW iX xDrive40 Sport will receive an exclusive pre-booking advantage, consisting of a Complimentary Charging Installation and a complimentary 1-year Public Charging Access.
This advantage will be available until 22nd September 2021, terms and conditions apply.
DC Fast Chargers will also be installed at all BMW i dealers for public use to further accelerate the availability of charging infrastructures in Malaysia, along with Rapid-charging DC Chargers to be made available for quick on-the-go charging at selected dealerships nationwide.
