The Chery Omoda 5 CKD and Tiggo 8 Pro CKD will be launched in July
Chery Automobile and Sime Darby Berhad jointly announced that they will enter into a partnership for Chery vehicles to be assembled in Malaysia.
The company officiated a partnership with Inokom Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is a subsidiary of Sime Darby Motors, for local assembly of the Omoda 5 and the Tiggo 8 Pro models at Inokom’s plant in Kulim, Kedah.
It is said that production is scheduled to begin in June with an initial capacity of 20,000 units per year, ahead of planned simultaneous launch of the Omoda 5 and the Tiggo 8 Pro in July.
Chery Corporate Malaysia Country Director Mr Leo Chen said the partnership with Sime Darby is aimed at strengthening its presence in emerging markets within Southeast Asia that has seen encouraging growth.

With its recent fresh entry strategies to Malaysia, Chery has previewed the Omoda 5 and Tiggo SUVs in October 2022 for the Malaysian media and public with encouraging feedback. Currently, it has 30 dealerships under renovation.
Chery Corporate Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (“CCMSB”), a local subsidiary fully-owned by Wuhu Purui Automobile Investment Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Chery Automobile, will be the Approved Permit (“AP”) Franchise Holder to undertake the local assembly of Chery vehicles in Malaysia for the domestic and export market.
