Lexus held the world premiere of the new Lexus IS online yesterday, featuring a fresh design, new features, and improved driving dynamics.
On the exterior, taking centre stage is the new Spindle Grille design which features a three-dimensional, polyhedral structure, and complementing it are features like newly developed compact and lightweight lamp units, muscular fenders, straight-line-type rear combination lamps sporting an “L” motif, three-dimensional bumper garnishes, as well as new 19-inch alloy wheels.
Size wise, the IS has grown by 30 mm in length, 30 mm in width, and 5 mm in height compared to the outgoing model. The car’s chassis is also more rigid than before.
Two new exterior colours have been introduced as well – Sonic Iridium and Sonic Chrome.
Inside, the new IS’ multimedia system features a new touchscreen that is compatible with SmartDeviceLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Other highlights include the door trim which now features a graphic pattern, as well as Ash decorative ornamentation.
Under the hood, the powertrain options have been carried over – the IS300 RWD comes with a 241-hp turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mill, the IS300 AWD gets a 260-hp 3.5-litre V6 engine, while the IS350 AWD and RWD are powered by a 311-hp version of the 3.5-litre V6 engine.
While AWD versions of the new IS use a six-speed automatic gearbox, the rear-wheel driven variants get an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
As far as safety is concerned, Lexus has added functions such as Emergency Steering Assist to the Lexus Safety System+ suite of safety features, which includes Pre-Collision system, Low Speed Acceleration Control, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beam, Road Sign Assist, and Driver Emergency Stop Assist.
