Volkswagen started the anniversary year of the Golf in a very sporty and spectacular way recently at the Ice Race in Zell am See, Austria.
The new Golf, which will be launched in time for its 50th birthday this year, had its public premiere at the traditional motorsport event on ice and snow. Volkswagen also provided a first impression of the Golf R which was camouflaged, which will celebrate its world premiere in mid-2024.
The new Golf was on display in Zell am See in four variants – not only as an exhibit, but also in action. Alongside the Golf R, the Golf GTI, Golf eHybrid and Golf GTE completed the line-up.
Not much has been revealed about the new Golf R but just like the new GTI and other variants, we can expect LED Matrix headlights, lit Volkswagen emblem on the front grille, new wheel design, as well as some tweaked aero bits on the bumpers and whatnot.
On the interior, as you would’ve seen on the new GTI, the buttonless minimalist cabin has been redesigned and the buttons on the steering wheel are back. Besides that, some exclusive R bits, emblems, matching stitchings and everything in between are expected to be a part of the new Golf R’s specifications list.
That being said, more details about the updated Volkswagen Golf R will be revealed very soon as we near the global debut so watch this space for updates. Meanwhile, enjoy the first set of images released by the folks at VW themselves.
