Proton X50 remains market leader for four years straight

The Proton X50, Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV, maintained its dominance in 2024, recording an impressive 23,647 units sold. This marks its fourth consecutive year as the segment leader since 2021, despite increasing competition from rival brands.

The 2024 Proton X50 debuted on June 4 and received a staggering 8,000 bookings within its first month, reaffirming its stronghold in the Malaysian SUV market.

Proton X50 Sport Edition Garners Strong Response

Adding to its success, the recently launched Proton X50 Sport Edition (SE) has captured significant consumer interest. Introduced on January 17, the SE secured 941 bookings in less than a month, with 299 units already registered. Designed with a sportier and more premium aesthetic, the SE retains the exceptional performance, safety, and advanced technology that PROTON customers expect.

A survey of over 1,300 Proton X50 owners highlighted key purchase motivations: 43% cited its extensive features compared to competitors, 35% praised its powerful engine performance, and 30% valued its fuel efficiency and after-sales service. Notably, 80% of X50 buyers previously owned non-Proton vehicles, indicating a strong conquest rate, while 38% were first-time car buyers.

Proton X90: A Family Favorite with Strong Market Presence

PROTON’s flagship D-segment SUV, the Proton X90, continued its success, delivering 3,553 units in 2024. Since its launch, the X90 has remained a market leader, with buyers drawn to its excellent driving performance, spacious storage, and value for money.

Survey results revealed that 30% of buyers prioritized driving performance, while 27% highlighted the X90’s generous storage and premium features compared to rivals. Interestingly, 83% of X90 owners were new to the Proton brand, further expanding PROTON’s customer base.

Proton X70 2025 Model Achieves Impressive Sales

Similarly, the refreshed 2025 Proton X70, launched in August 2024, contributed significantly to PROTON’s SUV sales. Out of 8,992 units sold last year, 5,628 belonged to the latest model, making up 62.6% of total sales.

Fuel efficiency (30%), advanced features (28%), and strong engine performance (23%) were the top reasons cited by buyers in the recent survey. Additionally, 86% of X70 buyers previously owned non-Proton vehicles, reinforcing PROTON’s growing appeal among Malaysian car buyers.

The 2025 X70 boasts significant upgrades, including a refreshed exterior, enhanced interior features, and improved ADAS Level 2 safety technology, ensuring a superior driving experience.
