Mohd Sukri bin Harun of Sani Express and Mohd Hisham bin Yusof from TNT Express Worldwide emerged winners at the Scania Driver Competitions 2013 held at the Sepang International Circuit.
While Mohd Sukri earned the highest points in the bus category, Mohd Hisham scored the most points in the truck class, beating eight other finalists.
They were tested on their skills through a series of challenges such as ‘fuel economy and defensive driving’, ‘reverse slalom’, ‘Knock the King’, ‘through the barrel, and ‘bull’s eye’.
According to Scania, the 10 finalists were shortlisted from over 700 truck and bus drivers from all around Malaysia who were required to complete a theory test which covered questions on local transportation laws and regulations, fuel-efficiency, safe driving techniques, knowledge in occupational risks and health, and emergency response.
While the winners each won RM10,000 in cash, a championship trophy and an achievement certificate, their companies were also awarded with RM5,000 worth of Scania service and maintenance vouchers.
Organised by Scania Malaysia with Michelin as the main sponsor, and the Road Safety Department of Malaysia (JKJR), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) as partners, the Scania Driver Competitions was introduced in Malaysia in 2009, six years after it was initiated in Europe.
Currently, the competition is held in more than 40 countries globally.
