Sime Motors, a leading player in the automotive industry, has formed a strategic alliance with CompAsia, the top provider of device circularity solutions in Southeast Asia. This partnership aims to tackle the growing concern of electronic waste (e-waste) while demonstrating a mutual commitment to environmental sustainability.

The initiative focuses on encouraging the responsible disposal and recycling of e-waste across Sime Motors’ operations in Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.

With the rise in e-waste, this collaboration offers a responsible approach for both employees and customers to dispose of old electronics. Participants in the trade-in program can exchange their used devices for cash or discounts on new purchases. Additionally, the partnership strives to promote awareness around extending the lifespan of devices, urging customers to explore refurbished alternatives. This approach supports the circular economy, helping to reduce the environmental impact of e-waste in landfills.

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia, commented, “By partnering with CompAsia, we are offering a convenient way for our employees and customers to responsibly dispose of old devices, while promoting the circular economy throughout our Southeast Asia operations. With the rapid growth of e-waste, we are committed to addressing this issue and creating positive change.”

George Hashim, Chief Strategy Officer of CompAsia, remarked, “Sime Motors is a prominent and respected brand in Southeast Asia, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them in our shared mission for a more sustainable and connected future. We believe that our innovative approach to extending the lifespan of devices, combined with Sime Motors’ leadership, will inspire consumers to make environmentally responsible choices.”

This collaboration further supports Sime Motors’ ongoing environmental initiatives. Moving forward, it will include the launch of several projects, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, device trade-ins, and awareness campaigns aimed at reducing e-waste. Through these efforts, decommissioned electronic devices that meet quality standards will be donated to underserved communities in Malaysia, contributing to the lifecycle extension of the devices and supporting a strong circular economy.

Sime Motors and CompAsia are committed to offering practical solutions that help both customers and employees contribute to the circular economy. Their focus is on raising awareness about the growing issue of e-waste and encouraging responsible disposal practices.
