For Liau Chia Chin, a 40-year old trading company director from Miri and Khoo Teik Seng, a 39-year old maintenance manager from Penang, the Shell Rimula Heavyweight Driving Challenge in London last year, which they had a chance to experience first hand, was way beyond what they had expected.
“It was an amazing experience to be able to ‘play’ with all kinds of heavy equipment under the guidance of expert instructors in such a beautiful setting outside London. We came away with much better appreciation of the vehicles’ power, the demands placed on heavy-duty engines of such equipment and the importance of using the right lubricants to keep them operating at optimum levels,” said Liau.
“I supervise the maintenance of trucks and heavy vehicles but never had the opportunity to drive or operate them until then. And to have done so in London was truly memorable!” said Khoo.
Both Liau amd Khoo also cherished the friendships that they formed with some of the 140 participants from 13 countries. They were all winners of the 2014 edition of the annual Shell Rimula global promotion that was held to reward hardworking truckers and transport operators.
The bespoke Heavyweight Driving Challenge in London was designed by Shell Rimula to let participants from all over the world put heavy-duty vehicles and their driving skills to the ultimate test.
During the challenge, guests experienced the vehicles’ power and gained an appreciation of the demands often placed on heavy-duty engines of tractors, excavators, dumper trucks, loader cranes, forklifts, articulated trucks and telehandlers when operating in real-life conditions – all protected by Shell Rimula heavy duty engine oil.
Malaysia was represented by Liau, Khoo and four other Grand Prize winners of the 2014 Shell Rimula ‘Win Your Place in London’ global promotion – Mr Chan Meng Fei, 29 from Alor Setar; Mr Loh Yew Sing, 53, from Sandakan; Mr Tan Chin Purn, 27 from Miri; and Mr Tang Chung Lay, 47, from Sibu.
