Volvo Trucks @ 2016 Tip-Ex Show

Volvo Trucks is exhibiting four vehicles at the annual Tip-Ex Show at the International Centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire from June 2nd – June 4th 2016.

Two of the trucks will be on display on Volvo’s stand (No. 29) in Hall B and the other two will be appearing on bodybuilder’s stands (details to be confirmed).

Demonstrating the versatility of Volvo’s range of four-axle chassis, three of the trucks are bodied 8×4 tippers featuring specifications carefully configured for a wide cross-section of typical multi-axle tipper operations. All were specified with 5,100 mm wheelbases.

While the FMX is fitted with a Thomson steel body, the two FMs feature aluminium bodies from Wilcox and PPG. The Wilcox alloy body is built to be suitable for N3G off-road applications. In line with the spec of the FM chassis to which it is mounted, the PPG alloy body is constructed for N3 on-road use, such as aggregates.

With its 8×4 X-High B-Ride chassis and straight front axles, the FMX conforms to the N3G off-road specification, as does the day cab FM. The sleeper-cabbed FMX is also equipped with the 13-litre, D13K540 (368 kW) engine rated at 540 hp and fitted with a retarder. The latter delivers 375 kW of retardation at 2,300 rpm. Both FMs are fitted with the payload-friendly, fuel-efficient 11-litre D11450 engine rated at 450 hp.

The sleeper-cabbed FM on display features an N3 on-road specification, which includes cranked beam front-axles and B-Ride parabolic spring rear suspension.

The three eight-wheelers are supported by the appearance of a high specification Globetrotter XL-cabbed FH 6×2 tractor unit. This is fitted with a lightweight Pusher-Axle rated at 4,500 kg. The front axle on this truck is rated at 8,500 kg. The 3800 mm wheelbase tractor unit also features air-suspension on all three axles. It is fitted with the D13K540 engine rated at 540 hp and the 12-speed AT2612E I Shift gearbox. The fitting of Durabrite wheels also helps reduce unladen weight.

The FH 6×2 tractor unit is equipped with a full package of Volvo’s latest safety systems. These include Active Safety +, Visibility Package, Electronic Stability Program, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Change Support, Lane Keeping Support and Driver Alert Support.
